Strawberries and Cream anyone?The most celebrated influential and magical Grand slam tournaments is about to begin  and this year it is even more significant as “The All England Lawn Tennis Club” will be celebrating its 125thyear of hosting The Championships, Wimbledon  which starts on 20th June until 3rd July 2011.


The first Lawn Tennis Championship in the world was held at the All England Club in July 1877 however no Championships were held during 1915-1918 and 1940-1945 due to the First and Second World Wars.

Wimbledon is the most sought after Championship Title amongst tennis champions. Played on original grass courts of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club; which over the years have witnessed many historical breath taking moments from Martina Navratilova equaling the  famous Billie Jean King record and achieving a total of 20 Wimbledon Championship titles, to Pete Sampras clutching his 7 Wimbledon Men’s Singles Championship.


With so much excitement surrounding this year’s event it is not to be missed. The tournament starts in a few days and the 13 day schedule is packed with lots of different events from the main events to the junior and the invitation events.

Will Rafael Nadal retain his title? Many are hoping to see Roger Federer hold high his 7th Men’s Singles Championship to equate to Pete Sampras’s Record and also the return of the William sisters after a few months of injuries; what upsets will be caused this year!


The 125th anniversary Celebrations has some special items planned for this year’s event; from the filming of the well-known TV programme Antiques Roadshow at the Club, a special Blue Peter showing the past, present and future of the Championships to a new Exhibition in the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum and lots more to come during the course of the tournament.
