Aer Arann is a regional airline founded in 1970 based in Dublin, Ireland. It is Ireland’s third largest airline with a fleet of 16 aircraft flying from Ireland and the Isle of Man to destinations in Ireland and France. The airline has its base at Galway, Waterford and the Isle of Man Airport. The airline has its headquarters in Dublin, Ireland.
An island-hopping air service between Galway and the Aran Islands off of the west coast of Ireland brought Aer Arann to operation in 1970. The service started with a single Britten-Norman Islander. In 1994, Pádraig Ó Céidigh purchased the airline and operated scheduled services from 1998. In the same year, the airline was awarded the PSO route between Donegal and Dublin and Sligo and Dublin. The airline commenced operations to the United Kingdom and Jersey in 2002. In 2004, operations were started to Nantes and Lorient in Brittany.
In 2008, the airline expanded operations to Amsterdam, Bordeaux, Málaga and Faro after entering into franchise agreements with Nex Aviation. The passenger traffic became low in 2008 and the airline leased some of its aircrafts to other airlines and focused on charter flights. In 2010, Aer Arann and Aer Lingus jointly founded the Aer Lingus Regional and the hubs at Cork and Dublin were removed. Since August 2010, the airline is under examiner ship and the high court has understood that the airline will be back with profitability within a year. In October 2010, Stobart Group was named the buyer of the airline and operations to London Southend Airport are expected from March 2011.
The airline signed code share agreement with Aer Arann on 15 January 2009.
